Ricky PontingRicky Ponting has been dropped from the Australian ODI squad for the remainder of the Commonwealth bank series following his poor form with the bat. The sequence with the bat in his last five innings has been the worst in his illustrious ODI career.

Ponting has scores of 2, 1, 6, 2, and 7 in this current series and selectors have clearly made it clear by dropping him and look ahead with 2015 World cup in mind. The selectors have taken this decision, despite the fact that Ponting was leading the side in the last 2 ODI’s when Michael Clarke was injured.

Just like Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor before him, Ponting has not been given the chance to end his one day career on his own terms. All-rounder Shane Watson has replaced him in the squad following his injury and has been named deputy to Michael Clarke.
