Australia wins Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia needed just 58 minutes on Day 5 to get the last 4 Indian wickets to wrap the test match and a comprehensive 4-0 whitewash. Before the Sydney test match, Australia’s leading fast bowler Glenn McGrath predicted a white wash but not many would have expected that to happen. Two weeks later Australia wins this Adelaide test match by a huge 298 run margin on the fifth day. Ironically only this test match in this series has gone into the fifth day.

Australia started to celebrate after off spinner Nathan Lyon managed to find the edge of India’s No 11 Umesh Yadav to be pouched by wicket keeper Brad Haddin. However Australia still remains at No 4 in ICC rating despite their series whitewash, clearly showing the impact of their slide in the past 12 months. But Michael Clarke’s men are on their way up and are expected to move in that direction as their next test series would be against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

India will have to do some soul searching and plenty of questions to be answered, especially their ageing middle order who collectively have had a horror series. India still have T 20’s and ODI’s to follow, so they would be expecting a turn around in shorter formats with fresh legs and mind. Let’s hope they can bring some cheer to all the Indian fans back home.
